Who Else Wants A Quiet Comfortable Safe Ride? Take a Serious Look at The Shoei Qwest Helmet

The Shoei Qwest replaces the TZ-R in Shoei’s lineup as its touring model. Built for long-range comfort, engineers honed the Shoei Qwest helmet aerodynamics in the wind tunnel. The goal was to reduce wind noise without blocking out the “informative sounds” of the road. The net result is a claimed 2.2 decibel reduction from its predecessor, or 60% decrease. The aerodynamic research also influenced the helmet’s shell shape, which like the rest of the latest generation of Shoei helmets, features a shell-integrated spoiler.

On road the Shoei Qwest is certainly quiet. Shoei knows that a quieter helmet can greatly reduce fatigue, as well as the risk of hearing loss. The wind-tunnel testing allowed Shoei to refine the aerodynamic shape of the shell and how the helmet seals around the lower part of the rider’s head, reducing audible wind noise appreciably.

The Qwest comes with ear pockets for headset speakers for that growing number of you who want to chat rider-to-rider, rider-to-pillion, listen to the GPS or soak up your favourite music. As for ventilation, the Shoei Qwest system makes use of a large lower shutter vent underneath the face shield. The upper vent is centrally located on the crown, with a pair of rearward exhaust vents. The AIM+ shell, which combines fiberglass with organic fibers, is DOT and Snell M2010 approved. Those who like to travel the longer roads realize that the snuggest fit without discomfort is critical to a helmet’s performance.

It also features the Quick Release Self-Adjusting (QRSA) base plate system, which uses a spring-loaded design to ensure a tight seal between the face shield and eye port bead. The scratch-resistant CW-1 shield also found in the RF1100 and X12 blocks 99 percent of UV rays (an optional Pinlock-equipped anti-fog shield is available).

Removable and washable cheekpads are available in variable sizes, allowing riders to dial in the fit. The main interior liner is not removable. The Shoei Qwest makes use of a conventional D-Ring cinch and snap chin strap. The removable washable velvety chin strap liners offer an extra comfy feel.

The Qwest helmet meets Snell M2010 certification. Its energy-absorbing EPS liner is a dual density construction, with the exterior AIM+ shell a six-ply composite design. Five different shell sizes accommodate a wide array of helmet sizes: XXS-S, M, L, XL-XXL. The helmet’s exterior finish is very smooth and durable as well. It is one of the quietest and most comfortable helmets offering the following:-

  • one of the quietest road helmets to achieve the new Snell M2010 standard
  • Shoei’s proprietary AIM+ shell utilizes a composite of fiberglass and organic fiber for a light tough shell
  • Five different shell sizes offering fits from XXS to XXXL
  • New Quick Release Self Adjusting (QRSA) spring loaded base plate system for a tight wind and waterproof seal
  • A wider taller face new CW-1 face shield
  • Blocks 99% of UVA and UVB radiation
  • Removable washable inner liner teams with the chin skirt and neck pad
  • Cheek pads in six thicknesses
  • Removable breath guard and chin curtain
  • Glove friendly ventilation adjustments
  • Upgradable Pinlock system available for more fog resistance
  • Street legal in the UK and Europe at the time the RF1100 was released
  • Backed up with a five year warranty.

The Shoei QWest Helmet represents perhaps the best value in the elite Shoei lineup, without sacrificing comfort and peformance.   We’d give it 4.5 out of 5 stars as part of this Shoei Qwest helmet review.

If You Were Ever Going To Buy Yourself a Shoei Qwest, Now Is The Time…

Right now there’s a major deal going on with Shoei Helmets. A friend of mine informed me that the reason is because they’re running a huge promotion to boost their brand and stand out amongst their market even more.

Essentially they’re heavily discounting their product just so they can dominate the motorcycle helmet market. However I won’t be surprised if they increase the price back to normal shortly, so I would recommend you go straight to their site right now and buy yourself a Qwest;
